Fashion&Food synergy for sustainability

The "Fashion & Food synergy for sustainability" project focuses on the trends affecting both sectors and the need for aware professionals with new skills.

The project is funded under the Erasmus+ – Higher Education programme.

VPROJECT PRESENTATION IDEA

Fashion and food are mature sectors across Europe. However, they are still a strong part of our economy, in their different segments: luxury and mass production.

The basic key elements are:

  • The value of the two sectors for the European economy, based on quality as a strategic lever, compared to other world economies
  • The cultural and economic impact on other sectors (tourism, art, cultural services)
  • The particularity of the material content of the two sectors, a source of cultural and economic added value.

Many studies show that cultural industries promote micro and macro regeneration processes at the urban level: in response to adverse macroeconomic circumstances, local production has progressively shifted towards material cultural production that requires specific local knowledge as a point of differentiation in global markets; The enhancement of craftsmanship skills and the connection of urban hubs with production districts (agricultural and textile), urban food and fashion remain a privileged area of urban economic development.

Regarding the central issue of sustainability, we see that fashion&food show many examples of common problems and are directly involved in finding solutions together.

At the academic level, these two fields are traditionally kept separate from each other. Combining knowledge on the two sectors looks very promising if we want to create new job opportunities in urban, cultural and creative industries.

Therefore, we want to explore the pedagogical challenges of teaching in this space, combining a critical sociological approach to cultural industries with the need to provide innovative ideas and skills for the foreseeable future.
