PROJECT PRESENTATION VIDEO

Fashion and food are mature sectors across Europe. Nevertheless, they are still a strong part of our economy, in their different segments: luxury and mass production.

The basic key elements are:

  • The value of these two sectors to the European economy, where quality serves as a strategic competitive advantage compared with other global economies.
  • Their cultural and economic impact on other sectors, including tourism, the arts, and cultural services.
  • The distinctive material dimension of both sectors, which generates significant cultural and economic added value.

Many studies show that cultural industries promote micro and macro regeneration processes at the urban level: in response to adverse macroeconomic circumstances, local production has progressively shifted towards material cultural production that requires specific local knowledge as a point of differentiation in global markets. The enhancement of artisanal skills and the connection of urban hubs with production districts (agricultural and textile), urban food and fashion remain a privileged area of urban economic development.

Regarding the central issue of sustainability, we see that fashion&food show many examples of common problems and are directly involved in finding solutions together.

From an academic perspective, these two sectors have traditionally been studied separately. Bringing together knowledge and expertise from both fields offers significant potential for creating new employment opportunities within the urban cultural and creative industries.

The project therefore aims to explore the pedagogical challenges of teaching within this interdisciplinary space, combining a critical sociological approach to cultural industries with the need to provide innovative ideas and skills for the future.
