Fashion Tales
In 2012 ModaCult promoted the first edition of Fashion Tales: an international conference opportunity to discuss the theme of fashion, as a cultural production and protagonist of transformation of contemporary cities, involving the main Italian and international scholars and opinion leaders in the sector.
Since its first edition, Fashion Tales, on the one hand, has activated a debate on the hot topics of fashion cultures such as, for example, the new forms of web 2.0 communication, sustainable fashion, the challenges to dominant models of femininity and masculinity, the contamination between Western and Eastern cultures. On the other hand, it has fostered transversal and multidisciplinary planning and the comparison between personalities with very different experiences, skills and roles such as, for example, fashion designers, PR, advertisers, buyers, companies, journalists, researchers.
The second edition in 2015, starting from the guiding theme of Expo 2015 "Feeding the planet. Energy for life", proposed to reflect on the practices of consumption, production, innovation that nourish the imagination of contemporary fashion. Scholars, designers, museum curators, opinion leaders and businessmen from all over the world met to share ideas, research, methodologies, iconographic basins, with particular attention to the reconstruction of the collective imagination that, in the world of fashion, touches on the sustainability of production and sustainable consumer lifestyles.
"Politics through the wardrobe", the third edition scheduled for 2020 and postponed to 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, was developed around the relationship between fashion and politics with the aim of discussing both fashion policies and how fashion and issues of political and social relevance influence each other.
Fashion Tales has become a point of reference for the international community of fashion scholars precisely because of its ability to promote the study of fashion in connection with broader issues affecting our society.
