Migrations and religious affiliations. From the periphery to the center for a new humanism

The research project, funded by Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore under the D3.2 funding line, Projects of University Interest, is directed by Laura Zanfrini and involved a multi-disciplinary team composed of sociologists (of migration, religion, family and education), political scientists, psychologists, jurists, philosophers, theologians, experts in migration pastoral care.

The project carried out a multi-site study, which involved Italy and the Middle East (with two focuses on France and Spain) and made use of a variety of survey methods (desk analysis, literature reconnaissance, Arabarometer data analysis, focus groups with young people, families, teachers, experts and privileged witnesses, in-depth interviews with privileged witnesses and migrants for religious reasons, analysis of case law, case studies...) maintaining a constant dialogue between the world of research and that of the operators involved in the governance of migration and integration processes.

The final results are published in the volume Migrants and Religion: Paths, Issues, and Lenses: A Multidisciplinary and Multi-Sited Study on the Role of Religious Belongings in Migratory and Integration Processes, XXII + 834 pp., available in open access.
