Diversity Improvement as a Viable Enrichment Resource for Society and Economy

The project Diverse – Diversity Improvement as a Viable Enrichment Resource for Society and Economy", co-funded by the European Integration Fund and coordinated by the WWELL research center of the Catholic University of Milan (with the scientific direction of Prof. Laura Zanfrini) was carried out in collaboration with 14 partners in 10 European countries: Estonia, Finland, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and Hungary.

The overall and long-term goal of the Diverse project is to "reinvent" the European approach to immigration, resolving its traditional contradictions through three main changes:

  • moving from a perception of migrants as a contingent and instrumental resource to the idea that their human capital represents a structural resource for the economic and social development of Europe;
  • promote greater awareness, among different types of organizations, of the importance and potential associated with Diversity Management strategies;
  • to encourage the social participation and civic engagement of migrants (and in particular their participation in voluntary organizations) for the construction of an inclusive society, so as to change their common perception of people to be helped and assisted.

The final results of the project are collected in the volume (downloadable for free): Zanfrini, L. (ed.) The Diversity Value. How to Reinvent the European Approach to Immigration, McGrow-Hill, 2015.
