Highlights
"Demographic glaciation", "collapse of the birth rate", "risk of depopulation". These are just some of the expressions that have been crowding the pages of newspapers in recent times, the data tell us that in Italy young people under 15 have now become less than half of those aged 65 and over, with the prospect of being reduced to less than one in three. What our country is facing today is a real crisis, which within a few years threatens to turn into an irreversible structural decline. We have entered a regressive spiral, and the inevitable and very concrete repercussions will affect many aspects of our lives. Pensions, health, immigration. What to do, then? Rosina illustrates here the first, decisive steps to be taken to keep the future of the new generations open.
Italy is one of the countries in the world where the demographic winter is most pronounced. If the current trends are not reversed, we will inevitably face irremediable criticalities. What distinguishes ours from other advanced countries with higher birth rates is not a lower number of desired children, but less efficient policies in favor of families and the new generations.

In 2025, young people have made their voices heard in every part of the world. From the squares of North Africa to European campuses, from climate movements to demands for peace and social justice, Generation Z has shown itself to be aware of global challenges, but also ready not to resign itself to daily difficulties such as access to housing, job stability, and the quality of welfare services. The 2026 edition of the Report analyzes the way in which young people deal with this complex scenario, trying to understand what is holding back and what favors their active role in life paths and in the social and economic context. Through a comparative reading, the volume rigorously and sensitively photographs the changes that the new generations are going through.

The volume deals with central themes such as the value of school, the relationship with work, access to housing, political participation and psycho-social well-being.
