MOLOR workshop
"Old Irish Resources and Linked Data Approaches for Historical Languages"
Tuesday, 16 September 2025
9:00 - 19:00 (TBC)
Aula Cripta, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore di Milano
Description
With the exception of a handful of projects, in particular Linking Latin (LiLa), the employment of semantic web standards for historical language data is a relatively unexplored research area. At the same time, many ancient and historical languages lack mature digital and computational resources. Old Irish exemplifies this gap, despite the headway made in the last 10–15 years. This workshop will bring together scholars interested in Linguistic Linked Open Data methods applied to historical languages and those that are interested in digital and computational resource building, especially for Old Irish.
The workshop will finalise the MOLOR—Morphologically Linked Old Irish Resource—project, an MSCA action hosted at the CIRCSE Research Centre, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore di Milano, between October 2023 and September 2025. Among the five talks are two keynotes: Dr Pádraic Moran (Galway) will talk about the GLOSSAM project, while Prof. Elisa Roma (Pavia) will present on the Pavia Verbs Database (PaVeDa) and valency patterns, focussing on Old Irish.
Registration (free) opens soon. More information will be available in due course at: https://centridiricerca.unicatt.it/circse/en/events.html.
