On November 22, 2025, the Conference "Fertility and pregnancy in cancer patients: utopia or reality?" was held at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Rome.

The conference was  promoted by the Centre for Research and Studies on Procreative Health and the Paul VI International Scientific Institute. A conference of great scientific and human interest, which brought together clinicians and surgeons of great experience to explore the theme of fertility after chemo- or radiotherapy treatments. The high 5-year survival rate (from about 65% for various cancer diseases up to 85% for lymphomas  and breast cancer) also raises the question of future quality of life, including the possibility of having a child. As Prof. Giovanni Scambia used to recall, it was unthinkable for him - at the beginning of his career - to be able to give a woman with cancer the hope of being able to have a child after recovery. Today, this hope could become reality: the woman must, therefore, know the existence of fertility preservation pathways. Paths that are scientifically and ethically different from each other. The Gemelli Polyclinic Foundation has opted for proposals that allow  women and couples to approach the search for pregnancy in a natural way. For example, with the offer of cryopreservation of ovarian tissue and its subsequent reimplantation for the search for a natural conception. For further information, from a scientific point of view, please refer to the Research-Oncofertility Section.
