Instrumentation

The lab was established in year 2000 by Prof. Massimo Sancrotti.
During the last years, the original instrumentation has been upgraded and many new tools are now operational.
The lab is equipped with an integrated system working under ultra high vacuum (UHV) with in situ scanning probe tools and preparation facilities.

Analysis

  • Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM)
  • Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM)
  • Scanning Auger Microscopy (SAM)
  • X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS)
  • Low energy Electron Diffraction (LEED)

Preparation

  • Ion gun
  • Plasma source (COPRA)
  • Sample manipulation
  • Evaporators (Au, Fe, Ag, Co, Bi, Cs, K, Pentacene)
  • Supersonic cluster beam deposition (SCBD)
  • The preparation chamber is also designed to be directly connected to the SCBD to perform controlled depositions of clusters under UHV.

Ancillary equipment in air

  • Atomic force Microscopy (AFM)
