Week of Italian Studies - I Edition

Milan, 3-8 February 2020

CULTURAL MEMORY

Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore
Centro di Studi Italiani/Center of Italian Studies (CSI/CIS) – Katholieke Universiteit Leuven

Italian culture is the subject of lively interest in the world both for the various and rich traditions that characterize it and for its important contribution to the construction of the sensitivity of modern man. What Dante already defined as the "beautiful country where 'l sì suona" (Inf., XXXIII 80) in fact preserves an inextinguishable heritage of masterpieces of literature and art that have their roots in an animated context of stories and ideas, endowed with its own cultural code handed down continuously through the centuries.
A precious treasure that deserves to be safeguarded and preserved as much as communicated and shared. In this scenario, the Week of Italian Studies, organized by the Center for Italian Studies (CSI/CIS) of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart of Milan in collaboration with the Katholieke Universiteit of Leuven, offers students an interdisciplinary in-depth study of Italian culture and civilization, dedicated, year after year, to to a different key theme. The first edition intends to explore the themes of cultural memory, making different disciplines and fields of study interact with each other, with particular attention to the literary, historical-political, artistic and performative panorama.

The deadline for sending applications for the Study Week is extended to 10 January 2020

The program is divided into lectures, discussions, guided tours of museums, exhibitions and cultural institutions in Milan, a city at the forefront of the promotion of Italian culture and artistic expressions at an international level. On the one hand, it offers participants the opportunity for a stimulating immersion in an excellent Italian academic environment – which ensures a highly qualified training – and on the other hand a valuable opportunity for contact with an international context, capable of stimulating a fruitful exchange of study and research experiences.

The lesson modules consist of a total of 22 hours, supplemented by 11 hours of alternative activities (visits to museums, exhibitions and cultural institutions; a thematic walk; a concert; a 'meeting with an author') and 4 hours of exposure and reworking of the contents by the participants.
