2020 Research Seminars

Preliminary information for the Autumn 2020 seminar can be found at the bottom of this page. Updates will be published as soon as further information is available, which will also depend on how the COVID-29 pandemic evolves.

A note to our PhD seminar community

Writing a PhD is to a large extent a solo journey and CHEI has always placed great emphasis on peer learning and community spirit to make each student feel their experience is more than an individual one.

Everybody missed being able to come to our research seminar in March and we have been organising a series of online sessions since then to keep students on track, connected, and motivated. We look forward to reading your research submissions in June and hope to be able to communicate our next seminar date soon!

Spring PhD Research Seminar

16-20 March 2020 - Brescia (near Milan)

We regret that because of the current situation in Italy regarding the COVID-19 pandemic we have taken the decision to deliver our seminar as much as possible online, rather than hold it as programmed in Brescia.

Our Spring 2020 PhD Research Seminar on internationalisation of higher education will be held at the prestigious Centro Paolo VI in the centre of Brescia, about 100 km from Milan.

The programme is designed to respond specifically to the needs of participants who find themselves at different stages of the doctoral process. Parallel sessions for newcomers, prospectives and current students address various aspects of the research and dissertation journey, while plenary sessions on internationalisation of higher education are held by invited academic experts.

Academic team

The academic team is drawn from leading academics in the field of higher education internationalisation, from our Academic Board and affiliated faculty.

The seminar will be held at the Centro Paolo VI (Paolo Sesto) near the centre of Brescia (Via Gezio Calini 30), where participants can also book accommodation.

We have secured discounted rates available until 16 January for accommodation at the Centro Paolo VI. Please contact us for the discount code to use when booking on the centre's webpage. We encourage you to stay at the seminar venue since there will be more opportunity to spend time with other participants and the academic team, who will be staying at the Centre too.

Transport to Brescia

There are easy travel links to Brescia from Malpensa Airport, Linate Airport and Orio al Serio (Bergamo) Airport. The nearest airport is Orio al Serio but intercontinental flights normally arrive at Linate or Malpensa.

Enrolment and payment

Enrolment is open until 17 February. To enrol and pay, complete the enrolment form here. If you wish to enrol after this date please contact us to see whether this is possible.

The cost of the seminar is EUR 500 including tax, which covers all seminar sessions, coffee breaks, and the CHEI dinner. It does not cover accommodation, travel costs or any other expenses. Enrolment will be confirmed via email once payment has been made. CHEI doctoral students are exempt from payment.

Bio and photograph

We ask all participants to submit a short bio and photograph by 17 February. See instructions here.
