Research Project on Catholic Identity and Internationalisation

 9 November 2017

In collaboration with Boston College and the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile, the Centre for Higher Education Internationalisation (CHEI) is participating in a research project on Catholic Identity and Internationalisation that will culminate in the publication of a book in June next year. A meeting was held this week in Santiago with the chapter authors from Catholic universities in North and South America, Europe and Asia to present the different cases and finalise the contents and structure of the book.

CHEI's Associate Director, Fiona Hunter, together with Michael James from Boston College presented a conceptual framework for thinking about identity and how it might be linked to internationalisation. She stressed that in order to move from broad statements to institutional practice it was fundamental to develop a purposeful process to embed both identity and internationalisation into everyday life in the university so that they might become levers for growth and regeneration. One of CHEI's doctoral students, Visnja Schampers-Car, presented a regional overview of Europe as well as three of the European case studies that she is developing for her dissertation, highlighting how both identity and internationalisation are understood and enacted in the different national and institutional contexts.
